Advanced Host Search

Data on the managed hosts can be searched using a selection of search criteria in the advanced host search section. The searches can be run to perform operations on the selected host, or just to view the situation on various sets of hosts.

To search for managed hosts:

  1. Go to Hosts → Advanced host search.

  2. Select a group in which to perform the search.

  3. Select zero or more types of search criteria (hostname, IP address and so on) on which to filter by selecting their corresponding checkboxes. Hosts in the search result need to match each selected type of criteria.

    • Hostnames: Enter a list of patterns that the hostname should match. A pattern can be a full or partial hostname, where an asterisk (*) can be used as a wildcard to match any string. Multiple patterns are separated by spaces. For example, the pattern *dre* will match the host andrew.ny.us.example.com, and *dre* *arl* will match both andrew.ny.us.example.com and barley.ny.us.example.com because there are two patterns separated by space.

    • IP address: Enter a value in one of the following formats:

      • Single IP address: n.n.n.n, for example 192.168.0.1

      • Range of IP addresses: n.n.n.n-n.n.n.n, for example 192.168.1.1-192.168.2.255

      • Class of IP addresses: n.n.n.n/n, for example 192.168.0.0/16

      Hosts will need to have an IP address exactly as specified, within the range, or in the class to match.

    • Connected status: Select Connected for hosts whose Management Agents are currently connected, and Disconnected for hosts that are not connected.

    • Last Connected: Select this option to search for hosts that have not been connected for a given period. Define the period (as days) in the Host not seen in field.

    • Server status: Select Running for hosts on which Tectia Server is running, and Not running for hosts on which it is not running.

    • Managed software: Select which Tectia products (one or more) the host should have installed. The version field can be left empty, in which case any version will match. If a version number in format n.n.n (for example 6.1.0) is entered, only that version of the installed product will match. A range of versions in format n.n.n-n.n.n (for example 6.0.0-6.2.1) will match any product with a version within that range.

    • Configuration changes: Select if the searched hosts should have locally modified configurations.

    • Operating system: Select one or more operating systems of which the host's operating system should be one. Optionally, you can specify also a version that must match as an exact substring.

    • Job: Select a previously started software install/uninstall or certificate enrollment job that the host should have been part of. If Failed hosts only is selected, only those hosts are matched that have not been able to complete the job successfully.

  4. Click Search. The search results will be shown in the list on the right.

  5. You can save the search results in a host set. Define a name for the host set in the Save as field and click Save. The host set will appear under the Hostlists entry in the tree view.

  6. Optionally, you can start an operation on the hosts listed in the search result by selecting the Operations check box:

    • Software: Install or uninstall Tectia software on the selected hosts.

    • Grouping: Move the selected hosts to a host group or delete the selected hosts. Select the group from the drop-down menu.

    • Distribution Grouping: Move the selected hosts to a host group related to a Distribution Server. Select the Distribution Server from the drop-down menu.
