SSH and Thales eSecurity Form Partnership

Thales HSMs to secure SSH.COM’s industry-leading Universal SSH Key Manager® solution

Helsinki, Finland
– December 04, 2018  – SSH.COM and Thales eSecurity today announced a partnership to enable the use of Thales hardware security modules (HSMs) to secure SSH.COM’s industry-leading Universal SSH Key Manager® (UKM) solution.

UKM users can now use Thales HSMs to further secure the powerful SSH master keys used by UKM, creating an additional layer of security and further reducing their attack surface.

UKM offers the best TOC (total cost of ownership) and best ROI in the industry and is deployed by numerous Fortune 100 companies, including financial institutions, retail companies, and energy companies as well as many government agencies. It is unique in the marketplace as the only full-lifecycle, minimally invasive comprehensive solution that automatically discovers, deploys, rotates, removes, and monitors SSH keys.

Large enterprises may have millions of key pairs authorizing automated access across their development, testing, and production environments. There is no auditability of who can access what or proper termination of key-based access when authorized users leave the organization. Auditors, compliance experts, and security specialists are recognizing the fact that authentication keys need the same level of protection, control, and auditing as passwords and encryption keys.

Thales nShield HSMs provide a hardened, tamper-resistant platform for performing functions such as encryption, digital signing, and key generation and protection. Thales nShield HSMs support an extensive range of applications, including certificate authorities, code signing, or any other application that uses digital keys, either on-premises or in virtual or cloud environments.

“SSH keys are one of the most important tools to provide automated access to critical digital assets, including machine-to-machine access. Integrating UKM with nShield HSMs provides a truly secure end-to-end SSH key management solution for demanding customers worldwide. The multiple form factors of the nShield product family provide our customers additional deployment options and the utmost in flexibility and security,” said Markku Rossi, CTO at SSH.COM.
