SSH Tectia

Secure File Transfers

This use case describes how SSH Tectia Manager can be used to configure and manage transparent FTP security using the FTP-SFTP conversion and transparent FTP tunneling functionalities.

In FTP-SFTP conversion, all the FTP commands are transparently converted to SFTP on the client host and the files are transferred using the secure SFTP protocol instead of FTP. Since the file transfers are pure SFTP, an FTP server is not needed at the server end.

In transparent FTP tunneling, the existing FTP jobs are secured using Secure Shell tunneling. Transparent FTP tunneling can be used, for example, in environments that use a lot of complex FTP transfer jobs with pre- and postprocessing, either on the client or at the server end. In this case, the original FTP server remains operational.
