SSH Tectia

Configuring SSH Tectia Client 4.x (Windows)

The SSH Tectia Client 4.x configuration on Windows consists of three parts which are assigned to hosts and distributed in one set. The settings distributed in a Windows configuration are:

  • Connection profiles, separate connection settings for each remote host computer (<profilename>.ssh2 for SSHClient.exe): Configurations → Edit Configurations → SSH Tectia 4.x → SSH Tectia Client (Windows) → Connection profiles, see Figure 8.12

  • Global client settings, common for all connections to remote host computers (global.dat for SSHClient.exe): Configurations → Edit Configurations → SSH Tectia 4.x → SSH Tectia Client (Windows) → Global settings, see Figure 8.13

  • Command-line client settings, used by the ssh2.exe, scp2.exe, and sftp2.exe command-line tools (ssh2_config): Configurations → Edit Configurations → SSH Tectia 4.x → SSH Tectia Client (Windows) → Command-line client

Multiple profiles can be distributed in one configuration set. Each profile can be defined to create a shortcut to the desktop of the user (DesktopIcon) or to start at login (StartAtLogin).

After these have been configured, the set to be distributed can be combined at Configurations → Edit Configurations → SSH Tectia 4.x → Configuration sets (Windows).

We recommend creating the configuration originally with SSH Tectia Client and then copying the parameters from the configuration file to the matching places in the SSH Tectia Manager administration interface (this ensures the correct format of the parameters). Administrators creating the settings should also test the configurations made with actual SSH Tectia software before distributing them in large scale.

Editing the SSH Tectia Client 4.x (Windows) configuration

To combine a Windows client configuration into a configuration set:

  1. Click Configurations → Edit Configurations on the menu.

  2. Click the SSH Tectia 4.x tab and click the Configuration sets (Windows) folder.

  3. Click the Add new button to add a new configuration set.

  4. The configuration set edit page opens. See Figure 8.15.

    • Give a name for the configuration set.

    • Select the global configuration used in this configuration set.

    • Select the cliconf configuration used in this configuration set.

    • Select the connection profiles to send to the SSH Tectia Client. Each SSH Tectia Client host can be given 0-50 pre-configured profiles.

  5. Click Save when ready.

  6. The changes you made are displayed and you are asked to confirm them. Click Yes to save the changes.

SSH Tectia Client Configuration File on Windows

The default locations of system-wide configuration files are:

  • on Windows NT4:

    C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\Application Data\SSH\

  • on Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, and Server 2008:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SSH\

Connection Profiles (ProfileName.ssh2)

SSH Tectia Manager has an option to install a connection profile as a desktop icon. The connection profile can also be configured to start upon user login.

Note that SSH Tectia Client will use a profile named "default" for the Quick Connection.

For more information on Profile Settings, see the SSH Tectia Client User Manual. See SSH Tectia Client (Windows) for a list of SSH Tectia Client parameters that are configurable in SSH Tectia Manager.

Global Settings (global.dat)

The Management Agent combines the centrally managed SSH Tectia Client Global settings to the Global settings of the user. SSH Tectia Client uses the complete global.dat located in the user's profile directory:

  • on Windows NT4:

    C:\WINNT\Profiles\username\Application Data\SSH

  • on Windows 2000 and XP:

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\SSH

The user can edit the Global settings but only the user's own configurations, such as file transfer favorites or color settings, are preserved. If the user modifies centrally managed parameters, for example disables the FIPS mode, the configuration reverts silently back to the centrally managed configuration.

For more information on Global Settings, see the SSH Tectia Client User Manual. See SSH Tectia Client (Windows) for a list of SSH Tectia Client parameters that are configurable in SSH Tectia Manager.
