SSH Tectia Manager allows flexible creation of various host views and host groupings. These views and groups are used for selecting the target hosts for:
administrator access right definitions
software deployment
configurations assignment and deployment
tunneling rule definitions
report compilation.
For this reason the views should be carefully planned to match the structure of the actual environment and the IT processes as closely as possible.
Note that one of the views is chosen for configuration assignment when making the first configuration assignments. This selection cannot be changed later and thus needs to be planned particularly carefully.
The following figures show example groupings based on managed host locations and operating systems (that are the default view criteria) and on SSH Tectia software installed on the hosts.
In case you are managing a geographically distributed computer network, you can arrange to view the hosts of each location together, as in the figure below.
Create a view of all hosts using the same operating system. This makes it easy to implement platform-related modifications to all related hosts at the same time.
You can also create a view where the hosts are grouped according to the SSH Tectia software they are running. This view helps in implementing software-related modifications to all related hosts at the same time.
