SSH Tectia Usage

The planned use of the SSH Tectia security software determines which software components need to be deployed to the target hosts. Typical use scenarios are:

Secure system administration
SSH Tectia software replaces the unsecured Telnet and FTP services with a secure terminal and file transfer server, allowing system administrators to maintain servers and other network components, while being secured with strong encryption and authentication. Secure system administration requires the following software components:
- SSH Tectia Server software on the target servers
- SSH Tectia Client software on the system administrator workstations
Secure application connectivity
SSH Tectia software enables secure tunneling of business application traffic. SSH Tectia Client provides the basic tunneling services, and SSH Tectia ConnectSecure provides the more advanced transparent tunneling allowing organizations to secure their business-critical applications without modifying the applications or the IT infrastructure. Secure application connectivity requires the following software components:
- SSH Tectia Server, SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS (or any SSH2-capable Secure Shell server) software on the target servers
- SSH Tectia ConnectSecure software on server hosts where client tools are also needed
- SSH Tectia Client software on the end-user workstations
- SSH Tectia Connector software on earlier workstation installations is supported, but no longer available for new deployments
- Connection license file import for SSH Tectia Connector
Secure file transfer
SSH Tectia products help replace FTP with secure file transfer services. Different methods for FTP replacement are available with different SSH Tectia products and their combinations. The secure file transfer services require the following software components:
- SSH Tectia Server, SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS (or any SSH2-capable Secure Shell server software) on the target servers
- SSH Tectia Client software on the end-user workstations where the basic secure file transfer services are needed
- SSH Tectia ConnectSecure software on server hosts where client tools, FTP-SFTP conversion, or enhanced file transfer services are also needed
