SSH Tectia

Managed Hosts

The number and characteristics of the hosts targeted for management should be assessed prior to deployment planning:

Question 15: What is the number of hosts targeted for management?

If the number of managed hosts is very large (over 2000), it may be worth considering whether they should be managed from a single location or multiple locations (in which case multiple Management Servers may be a viable option). If the entire environment is to be managed from a single Management Server, local Distribution Servers can be deployed to improve scalability.

Question 16: What are the operating systems and versions running on the managed hosts?

Check SSH Tectia Manager Product Description for a list of supported platform versions and see the notes on possible restrictions on legacy platforms.

Question 17: What is the available RAM and disk space on the target hosts?

Check SSH Tectia Manager Product Description for the Management Agent hardware requirements.

Question 18: Is gzip available on the targeted Unix hosts?

gzip is required for centralized deployment of SSH Tectia software to Unix hosts.

Question 19: Is there a tool available for remote software installations?

The Management Agents need to be deployed to the target hosts either locally or via an existing software deployment mechanism (for example Microsoft SMS or Active Directory).

Question 20: Is there a test environment available for a test deployment?

A test deployment should always be performed before attempting deployment of new software to the production environment.
