Wellesley, MA – Tatu Ylönen, CEO of SSH Communications Security and inventor of the SSH protocol, will present “SSH Access Management: User Key Risks, Costs and the Solution” at the 2012 Gartner Risk Management and Security Summit taking place at the Gaylord National Hotel & ConventionCenter, National Harbor, MD. Mr. Ylönen will present on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 3:55 PM.
“Large organizations may have hundreds of thousands of user key pairs – or trust relationships – in their environments and in most cases IT security teams don’t have visibility into those relationships,” stated Mr. Ylönen. “Without the ability to easily discover, deploy, remove and rotate user keys, IT security teams and department headsdon’t know who has authorized access to which server and thus what information.”
Compliance mandates such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, FISMA and SOX require organizations to fully protect and manage their encryption keys as well as ensure visibility and control of who can access what. Otherwise, these organizations risk failed audits, financial penalties and additional liabilities. In addition, there are inherent security risks that organizations face when user keys are unmanaged, including the potential for compromised trust relationships thatcould allow attackers to gain access to sensitive business and consumer personal information.
“Not being able to effectively manage your user keys is like having thousands of copies of your house keys out there in theworld and not knowing who has them,” continued Ylönen. “As disquieting as that thought is, many organizations today simply don’t know who has the keys to their servers – and their data.”
Beyond the compliance and security issues presented by a lack of key management, the cost of maintaining trust relationships in a large secure shell environment can be very high. At thisyear’s event, Mr. Ylönen will present real world examples of large secure shell environments and demonstrate how those costs can be decreased by as much as 80% by bringing secure shell user keys under control.
