While working as a researcher at Helsinki University of Technology, Tatu Ylönen began working on a solution to combat a password-sniffing attack that targeted the university's networks. What resulted was the development of the Secure Shell (SSH), a security technology that would quickly replace vulnerable rlogin, TELNET and rsh protocols as the gold-standard for data-in-transit security.
Tatu has been a key driver in the emergence of security technology including SSH & SFTP protocols and co-author of globally recognized IETF standards. He has been with SSH since its inception in 1995 holding various roles including CEO, CTO and as a Board Member.
In October 2011 Tatu returned as Chief Executive Officer of SSH Communications Security, bringing his exceptional experience as a network security innovator to SSH's product line. He is charting an exciting new course for the future of the space that he invented.
Tatu holds a Master of Science degree from the Helsinki University of Technology (nowadays Aalto University).
Matthew McKenna brings extensive technology experience to SSH's sales and marketing team and is responsible for all revenue-generating operations at the company. His expertise in strategically delivering technology solutions that anticipate the marketplace has helped SSH win the trust of 7 of the Fortune 10 and more than 3,000 customers worldwide.
Prior to joining SSH Communications Security, Matthew served as a member of the executive management team of ADP Dealer Services Nordic and Automaster Oy, where he was responsible for international channel operations and manufacturer relations. He was responsible for key accounts including Mercedes Benz, General Motors and Scania CV. Automaster was acquired by ADP in 2009
Matthew holds a BA in German from the University of South Carolina and an MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration.
Jyrki Lalla is responsible for Financial Management, Treasury, Human Resources, Corporate Development and Corporate Governance. He also acts as Secretary to the Board of Directors.
Prior to joining the company in February 2012, Jyrki held several senior financial management positions at Nokia Corporation and Nokia Siemens Networks in Finland, Italy, Great Britain and Germany. Jyrki has headed finance and control for global software and service businesses in Europe, Middle-East and Africa. He has gained extensive experience in ramping up international operations in high growth organizations with specific responsibilities for functional areas such as acquisitions, divestments, outsourcing and mergers. He also has knowledge of development processes and systems for finance & control, overall operations and risk management.
Jyrki has a Master of Science degree from Turku School of Economics and Business Administration and further studies in finance from Hanken School of Economics and IMD.
Antti Huima heads SSH’s global R&D and directs the company’s technology strategy together with the CEO. He has nearly twenty years of experience in the software industry, with contributions to information security, cryptography, software quality assurance, and theoretical computer science.
Prior to joining SSH, Antti served as CTO, CEO, and inside director at Conformiq, a software test design automation company. During his time at Conformiq, Antti lived in Silicon Valley for three years with his family.
Earlier in his career, Antti cracked SSH-1, discovering more than ten security holes in it. He also designed an analysis method for cryptographic protocols that was later recognized as a landmark contribution. Antti worked as Research Manager for SSH before joining Conformiq, and was then a long-standing member of SSH’s software architecture team.
While continuously working in the industry, Antti has lectured cryptography, computer security, and theory of testing on university level and has served several academic program committees.
Antti has a Master of Science degree from Aalto University. He graduated with distinction with a thesis that won multiple awards on national level.
Kalle Jääskeläinen has over ten years of experience in the information security and communication network industry. His technical background and sales expertise creates an ideal combination for understanding the market and customers’ challenges along with the technical implementation possibilities. His current role as Vice President of Product Management and Services allows him to support and serve a majority of the global Fortune 500 companies.
Kalle received his Bachelor of Science from the Vantaa Institute of Technology where he specialized in Telecommunication and Computer networks and carries a CISSP certification.
Sami Ahvenniemi heads SSH’s operations in North and South America and is a member of the Group Management Team.
Sami has over 15 year experience in working with technology companies having held executive positions both in Finland and in the United States. Prior to re-joining SSH, Sami worked as Co-Founder & Partner at Conor Venture Partners, an early stage Nordic technology venture capital company. Prior to starting his venture career in 2002, Sami held several executive positions at SSH Communications Security Corporation between 1998 and 2002 and was among other positions the first founding CEO of its operation in the USA in 1998.
Sami has a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Aalto University School of Science and Technology.
Mika Lauhde is responsible for Government Relations and Business Development.
Prior to joining SSH Communications Security, Mika headed the Business Security and Continuity in Nokia Corporation, where he was accountable for Government Relations in Cyber Security area, criminal compliancy and forensic, Nokia crisis management, and terminal and manufacturing related security tool manufacturing. Mika has extensive experience in cyber security related topics and governmental institutions both in Europe and the USA. Currently, he is a member of ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) Permanent Stakeholder Group, the European Cyber Security Research Center, and the Finnish Government Cyber Security working group.
Mika received his Bachelor of Science in Automation and Graphical Industry from the Vantaa Institute of Technology, Finland, and has a Master of Engineering degree in Electronics from Hochschule Osnabrück, Germany.
Tommi Lampila serves as Vice President, APAC and is repsonsible for sales, business development and channel operations for the region. During his 12 years at SSH, Tommi has worked as a Product Manager for multiple network encryption, authentication, and security management solutions utilizing technologies ranging from PKI to IPSec to Secure Shell and SSL. Prior to SSH, Tommi was an Information Management Engineer at Rautaruukki, a large Finnish steel corporation.
He has an M.Sc. degree in engineering from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland and carries a CISSP certification.
Jason Thompson serves as Director of Global Marketing and is responsible for all analyst & public relations, product marketing, demand-generation and sales development. He brings over 10 years of experience in early stage and hyper-growth companies. Prior to joining SSH, he led online marketing at Q1 Labs, a market leading SIEM provider, where he helped build awareness around security intelligence and holistic approaches to dealing with advanced threat vectors.
Earlier, he served as Marketing Communications Director at Building Engines, a leading SaaS building operations management vendor, Marketing Communications Manager at endoluminal device maker EndoGastric Solutions and in an investor relations capacity at Impact Capital/LISC that led to a successful $17.5 million investment round. Jason began his career working in the Colorado State House as a legislative assistant and in Washington, DC on a number of projects funded by the newly formed Department of Homeland Security.
Jason holds a BA from Colorado State University and an MA from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Joe Scaff serves as Director of Global Customer Services and is responsible for managing of global technical sales, support, professional services teams and customer projects. He brings over 10 years of experience in Information Technology, including seven years in the information security technology and network communications industry. He has a strong technical background enabling him to deliver strategic solutions to Fortune 500 customers. His role as Director of Global Customer Services allows him to manage a global high performance and advanced technical team in order to provide customers with timely delivered solutions in large organizations in order to meet their audit and regulatory requirements related to data security and key management.
Earlier, he served as a project technical lead and developer for a large consulting company focusing on the healthcare vertical; Working with complex database structures, web application server setup and development, and production environment management.
Joe received his Bachelor of Computer Science from Wentworth Institute Of Technology in Boston, MA.
