[ SSH TECTIA NEWSLETTER (VOLUME 16) ] < October 31st, 2005 >
======================================================
* Product News (1) - Replacing FTP and Telnet in Cross-Platform Networks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plaintext Telnet and FTP connections constitute a serious risk to the integrity of enterprise networks. Due to the challenging new legislations, stricter auditor requirements, and more sophisticated network attacks, security is no longer an option - it is a must.
The"Replacing FTP and Telnet in Cross-Platform Networks" white paper introduces key areas to consider when seeking and evaluating products and technologies for a secure replacement of FTP, Telnet, and other system administration methods.
To download the new white paper, go to: http://www.ssh.com/campaign/ftpwp/newsletter.html
* Product News (2) - PKIX Certificate Management Protocol Reaches RFC Status
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The PKIX (Internet X.509 Public-Key Infrastructure) working group of the IETF has published a new Standards Track RFC on Certificate Management Protocol (CMP). Co-authored by Mr. Tomi Kause, software engineer at SSH Communications Security, the new RFC4210 introduces multiple improvements that make it easier to implement interoperable certificate management systems. RFC4210 obsoletes the older RFC2510 as the certificate management protocol specification of the PKIX.
SSH Tectia supports the client-side functionality of RFC4210 and is compliant with the Mandatory Profile specified in Appendix D. To read the specification, go to: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4210.txt
* Tips & Tricks: Accessible Directories in SSH Tectia Server for Windows
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SSH Tectia Server 5.0 on Windows can be configured to restrict access of secure file transfer users to specific directories. The accessible directories are configured as virtual folders enabling the administrator to choose a descriptive name for a directory independently from the file system naming convention. This also provides means to hide the file system structure from the SFTP users. By default all available drives are accessible directories.
