SSH Appoints Timo J. Rinne Chief Technology Officer
SSH Communications Security (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading developer of managed security middleware, today announced that it has appointed Timo J. Rinne, M.Sc (CS) chief technology officer.
Rinne will lead SSH's technology research team, as well as the application of this research to SSH's development initiatives and SSH Tectia products. SSH Tectia is an enterprise class suite of security solutions based on SSH's industry leading technologies, including the award-winning SSH Secure Shell used by millions of enterprise users worldwide.
Previously, Rinne was director, new product technologies at SSH. In his new position, he will succeed SSH founder and former CTO Tatu Ylönen, who will continue as a member of SSH's product development team and member of the board of directors while focusing on finalizing his doctoral dissertation at the Helsinki University of Technology. As CTO, Rinne reports to SSH Vice President, R&D Jorma Kemppainen.
Timo Rinne, 35, joined SSH in 1998 and has since held various management positions with the company's engineering department, including vice president, engineering (1998-2000), director of technology in network systems (2001-2002) and director, new product technologies (2002-2004). Rinne has had key roles in the development of almost all SSH products. Prior to joining SSH, Rinne worked at Nokia Research Center.
Rinne earned a Master of Science (computer science) degree from the Helsinki University of Technology. He is an internationally recognized authority on IT security, having contributed to the development of the SSH2 protocol at the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), among other initiatives. Rinne is also a frequent speaker at international conferences and seminars on IT security.
