CyberTAN Chooses SSH For VPN Broadband Router And Cable Modems Security

SSH Certifier and SSH Certificate Toolkit to Secure CyberTAN’s Broadband VPN Router and Cable Modems

SSH Communications Security (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading developer of Internet security solutions, today announced that it has licensed two of its products for integration into CyberTAN's new CableHome Solution and VPN routers product line.

Under the terms of the licensing agreement, the network systems developer and manufacturer, CyberTAN, will use the SSH Certificate Toolkit and SSH Certifier certification authority solutions to enable its broadband cable network devices to support digital certificate functions, in compliance with the latest security specifications from CableLabs®, Cable Home specifications (www.cablelabs.org) and enable its strong X.509 authentication features to enable easy online authentication between the cable service provider and the cable service subscriber, preventing device cloning from outside threats. CyberTAN will integrate the SSH Certificate Toolkit into its cable devices products, and use SSH Certifier to pre-install digital certificates inside them before shipment.

Another feature is the ability to authenticate the mass deployment of firmware download for the cable devices from ISPs, enabling efficient, cost-effective administration. Securing the network must first come from the access point - the CPE cable network device -, but typically, updating the firmware and software of a network device is impossible to do securely without strong authentication. SSH Certifier and SSH Certificate Toolkit, ensure strong authentication when issuing and importing digital certificates to the network device.

Managing and maintaining remote devices such as cable modems and other remote appliances has been a challenge for service providers and IT managers. SSH Certifier allows for secure access to configure, maintain and upgrade these remote appliances.
