SSH Completes FIPS 140-2 Certification Testing, Awaiting Final Approval from U.S. Government
SSH Communications Security has submitted a cryptographic security module within its Secure Shell product line to achieve U.S. government certification, under the Cryptographic Module Validation (CMV) Program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The CMV Program provides specifications for software and hardware products that employ cryptographic algorithms, cryptographic key generation and distribution techniques, and authentication techniques that are FIPS 140-2 approved for protecting Federal Government unclassified information. Vendor products are tested for compliance to these specifications by NIST-approved testing laboratories. In accordance with the NIST certification guidelines, the SSH cryptographic module will be certified at Level 1, which defines software cryptographic functions to be performed in a general purpose PC without any additional hardware security mechanisms.
SSH has reached the final stages of certification of the cryptographic module, and all testing activities have been successfully completed through a NIST-approved test laboratory. The SSH cryptographic module is in the final review stage at NIST, in which laboratory test results are analyzed prior to certification. NIST does not commit to a specific certification date, however SSH is expecting a final approval by the end of Q3 2003.
, a feature-rich remote access VPN "smart" client are ideal solutions for securing wireline and wireless networks. The SSH Certifier product family provides a robust certification authority for flexible and strong authentication through digital certificates and tokens. The market-leading, award-winning SSH IPSec family of toolkits for OEMs and software developers enables fast time-to-market and reduced in-house development costs. SSH is traded publicly on the Helsinki Exchanges under HEX:SSH1V. For more information, please visit www.ssh.com.
