SSH Communications Security Introduces Next-Generation of Leading Secure Shell Standard for Enhanced Secure File Transfers Over the Internet
SSH Secure Shell 2.2 Provides Compatibility With SSH1 and Makes SOCKS Configuration Easier
SSH Communications Security (SSH), the world-leading developer of Internet security technologies and developer of the Secure Shell standard, today announced SSH(R) Secure Shell(TM) 2.2. With over three million users in 80 countries, SSH Secure Shell is the recognized de-facto standard for secure remote administration and secure file transfers over the Internet. SSH Secure Shell 2.2 is available for Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2000 and Sun Solaris 2.6 and 7, RedHat and SuSe Linux distributions based on 2.2 kernel, FreeBSD and NetBSD, HP/UX 10.20 and 11.x, Compaq Tru64 UNIX, and many other platforms. SSH Secure Shell 2.2 includes several new advanced features designed to increase ease-of-use and functionality for end users:- SSH1 terminal emulation in SSH Secure Shell for Workstations Windows client provides compatibility with existing SSH1.x servers and devices.
- Improved SOCKS configuration eases Secure Shell deployment.
- Various command line operations are now supported, such as tab completion of UNIX SFTP function that provides easier and faster execution of secure file transfer commands.
Secure Shell encrypts all passwords and data transmitted over the Internet. This protects Internet servers against the most common break-in method used by hackers -- stealing passwords from the Internet. SSH Secure Shell, with the graphical file transfer interface, is ideal for securely maintaining Web servers, UNIX servers, as well as for accessing corporate resources from home and travel.
"Companies can no longer make excuses for a poor or non-existent security infrastructure. Part of effective network protection is ensuring that remote communications are not a risk to users," said George Adams, president and CEO of SSH, Inc. "SSH Secure Shell guarantees that information sent over the Internet is strongly encrypted. With the new functionality that version 2.2 offers, Secure Shell is easier to use than ever and even more of an asset to any corporate network."

Invented in 1995 by Tatu Ylonen, Secure Shell (also referred to as SSH, SSH1 or SSH2) is a program to log into another computer over the Internet. Secure Shell secures the connection over the Internet by encrypting passwords and other data. Once launched, it transparently provides strong authentication and secure communications over insecure networks. Benefits of the Secure Shell technology include ease-of-use, strong security and flexibility. It has become a de-facto standard for remote logins, and increasingly many organizations are completely prohibiting any other form of access to their networks from the public Internet. Secure Shell protects terminal connections, file transfers, e-mail access, graphical X11 (X Window System) applications, and arbitrary TCP/IP connections. Its main applications include UNIX computers, system administration, Web site administration, and remote access to corporate resources over the Internet by employees or business partners. SSH Secure Shell has been adopted by major telecommunications suppliers (e.g., MCI), government agencies (e.g., NASA), universities (e.g., Harvard), networking vendors (e.g., Cisco), and numerous corporations.SSH Corp.
