SSH Communications Security Joins 3GPP and ETSI
According to Professor Hannu H. Kari, Senior System Architect at SSH and director of Telecommunications and Software Engineering Institute at Helsinki University of Technology "Telecommunications technology is rapidly converging towards the Internet. Thus, Internet Protocol (IP) will play a vital role also in future telecommunications networks."
"Security plays a critical role in the standardization of future telecommunications," said Kari. "Traditional security solutions of old telecommunications networks are inadequate to fulfill the requirements of the future converged communications networks. Instead, open, publicly tested security solutions that have been implemented in generic IP-based networks will be used also in telecommunications networks. IPSec is the Internet standard for secure IP-based communications, and SSH is the global leader in IPSec. Therefore, it is natural that SSH participates in the telecommunications standardization as well."
SSH recently announced a major initiative to develop security solutions for mobile and wireless Internet, and considers this market one of its key focus areas. 3G will be one of the important technologies enabling the mobile connectivity to the Internet. Active participation in the standardization of various future wireless technologies is an important part of the company's initiative.
