SSH Communications Security and Deterministic Networks to Deliver First Policy-Based VPN Solutions with QOs
Combined Technologies Offer Most Powerful Encryption While Solving Key VPN Management Problems
SSH Communications Security (SSH), the world-leading developer of Internet security and advanced cryptography solutions, and Deterministic Networks, Inc. have entered into a strategic software cross-licensing agreement which will produce the world's first policy-based VPN (Virtual Private Network) solution. Deterministic Networks will expand its host and router-based policy agents to include dynamic VPN policies based on SSH's IPsec products. For the first time, an IS/IT manager can establish corporate security policies to take effect dynamically without the need to configure source and destination IP addresses and ports associated with VPNs. Instead, a policy management system will enable the IS manager to select the users, applications, destinations and time of day that security must be enabled, and the underlying policy management software will set up the security associations when the policies are to be triggered. Companies such as Hewlett-Packard see the value in the joint SSH/Deterministic Networks solution. "HP Openview PolicyXpert plans to support the Deterministic Networks and SSH policy-based VPN. This solution solves the greatest problem in the VPN world - scaleable management of VPNs. With HP's centralized policy server, the solution offers enterprise and ASPs (Application Server Providers) unprecedented security and QoS with minimum configuration," said Rick Roeling, policy management architect at HP.
With this new approach, an IS manager can decide to implement VPNs whenever specific applications are run. Now, instead of incurring the inherent performance penalties when encrypting network traffic, the manager can secure the specific enterprise-sensitive applications and data while providing the best end user experience. Furthermore, the IS manager will not have to configure a VPN for each end user, application and potential supplier destination - all by IP addresses and ports. Instead, even in DHCP environments with applications that dynamically allocate ports and users who change locations, the VPNs will be set up dynamically whenever the selected application is run.
"Combining SSH's industry-leading IPsec technologies with our policy-based QoS capabilities has created a 'Virtual Leased Line' for the user," said Steve Jackowski, CEO of Deterministic Networks. "This saves the user operating expenses, while enhancing their network management capabilities."
"To be competitive, businesses need to implement security solutions that are scaleable and cost-effective to manage," said George Adams, president and CEO of SSH, Inc. "We are very pleased to partner with Deterministic Networks to make their leading policy management solutions available for customers to use VPNs to secure their data."
