SSH Communications Security Joins the PKI Forum
"The motivation behind joining this alliance is to work with the industry-leading vendors to boost the adaptation of PKI technology and improve the interoperability of SSH products. SSH is going to be active in the interoperability projects of the Technical Working Group at the PKI Forum. We are looking forward making a significant contribution in the Forum," said Tatu Ylönen, Chairman and CTO of SSH.
SSH introduced early this year SSH® CertifierTM, a new PKI management product for Internet applications. It includes an application software package for issuing and managing digital certificates within an organization's PKI. Open, flexible database and directory interfaces together with several optional certificate enrollment protocols make SSH Certifier easy to integrate to various X.509 -based PKI. The PKI technology is very central also in other products of SSH that implement IPSec (Internet Protocol Security), the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standard.
PKI provides authentication and encryption capabilities for IP networks by utilizing digital certificate technology. Certificates are digital identification documents signed and issued by trusted parties called certification authorities (CAs). With PKI, new users can be added easily by performing the certificate enrolment process between the end user and the CA. Revocation can also be easily performed by a single contact from a user to the CA.
