SSH Communications Security Licenses SSH IKE Toolkit to Sun Microsystems
SSH Communications Security Ltd. today announced that it will license SSH IKE Toolkit to Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW). The product will be incorporated into Sun's Solaris operating environment. The toolkit will make it easier for Sun's customers to deploy IPSec and will enhance Sun's existing Security offerings.
IPSEC/IKE (Internet Key Exchange) helps in negotiating the parameters of encrypted communications, like the encryption algorithm to be used, the time-to-live for the encrypted information in addition to the encryption keys between two parties before the actual secure session starts.

The Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) standard from Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) specifies how to secure data on the Internet and other IP based networks. IPSec will secure traffic by encrypting and authenticating all traffic between two network hosts, PCs, routers etc. The Internet Key Exchange (IKE) is used to exchange encryption keys and authenticate the communicating parties. IKE supports X.509 certificates for integrating into the public key infrastructure.
The technology from SSH has become the international reference for IPSec interoperability. SSH put out the first public test site for IPSec and IKE (previously known as ISAKMP/Oakley) in 1997. On those pages companies can test their implementations against SSH's products.
