SSH Co-Founds VPN Consortium to Speed Interoperability and Deployment of Internet Security Standards
Rodney Thayer, SSH Director of Technology, Elected to VPNC Board
SSH Communications Security Ltd. (SSH), a leading supplier of security for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), today announced that it is a founding member of the Virtual Private Network Consortium (VPNC), an industry association whose formation in May 1999 was publicly announced today. The VPNC was formed to serve as a forum for VPN manufacturers and to increase interoperability among the products of member companies. In addition, SSH announced that Rodney Thayer, SSH director of technology, was elected to the board of the new consortium. Mr. Thayer has played a key role in the establishment of the VPNC.
"We believe that ensuring interoperability around security standards is critical to the growth of the VPN market," said Tatu Ylonen, chairman and CEO of SSH. "We are delighted to be a founding member of the VPNC, and believe that it will be a key catalyst for faster industry growth."
VPN technology enables users to create ad hoc strategic secure networks without the technical or geographic limitations of Intranets. VPN companies implement a variety of industry-standard technologies, including IPSec, the Internet communications security standard championed by SSH.
"In a connected world, collaboration among manufacturers is the only way to go," said Thayer, SSH. "The VPNC is an ideal mechanism for us to help protect users' investments and ensure their interoperability and communications security."
