Interlink Computer Sciences' NetLOCK Adds Encryption Technology From SSH To Provide Standards-Based Software For Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
The Combination of These Technologies Delivers the Industry's Most Complete IPSEC Compliant Offering on More Operating Systems Than Any Other Product
Interlink Computer Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ:INLK) announced today the signing of a definitive agreement with SSH Communications Security Ltd. of Finland to incorporate the SSH IPSEC Express Toolkit into the next generation of the NetLOCK Security Suite. NetLOCK software provides secure, encrypted communications between remote users such as salespeople, customers, or vendors, and servers inside a company's firewall. IPsec is a proposed Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard for adding interoperable security to Internet Protocol (IP) communications.Interlink's use of SSH technology will bring a standards-based NetLOCK solution to market faster, enabling the company's e-commerce solutions to participate in the explosive demand for VPN products that comply with the IPsec standard. In fact, a recent study by Infonetics Research of San Jose, Calif., predicts that the worldwide VPN market will reach 1.9 billion by 2001, serving more than 62 million remote access users worldwide.
IPsec compliance assures corporate enterprises that NetLOCK products will work with all popular VPN (Virtual Private Network) products such as routers, firewalls and tunnel servers from companies such as AXENT Technologies, Cisco Systems, Checkpoint Software Technologies, Entrust Technologies, Network Associates and Raptor Systems. The resulting NetLOCK solution will give customers the widest platform coverage and the ability to protect their data both externally and internally from a variety of security threats.
Under the IPsec standard, all communications are secured at the IP-packet level. The need for a standard arises because a number of factors, including which encryption algorithms to use, the lifetime of the encryption, and the encryption keys themselves, must be negotiated before any secure session can begin. Under IPsec, a method called IKE (Internet Key Exchange) makes this process automatic.
"SSH IPSEC Express is the most comprehensive IPsec solution available, supporting all the latest standards and draft standards," explains Charles Breed, Director of the NetLOCK product line at Interlink. "It has proven itself extremely compatible with other solutions. For instance, the IKE solution from SSH Communications Security is currently used as a reference implementation for the interoperability of other major solutions. The addition of this technology will dramatically accelerate the development of our next version of NetLOCK."
