IPSEC Interoperability event hosted by Microsoft: SSH IPSEC solution ranked again high in comprehensiveness and quality
"The event was successful and brought great results for SSH Communications Security. The general opinion was that SSH ISAKMP/Oakley was the best application in the meeting. SSH IPSEC Express is among the top three IPSEC solutions, and definitely number one in the technological point of view", commented Tero Mononen, SSH Communications Security.
The purpose of interoperability meetings is to assure problem free connectivity between products from different vendors. This greatly helps end-users in hassle-free building and operation of their networks. Interoperability is always an issue especially when more value-added features are added to the products. Comprehensive support of different features defined by the standards is crucial in implementing a rich security policy that is easy to use.
Interoperability issues to be solved
The interoperability meeting also raised some important issues to be solved. The main interoperation problems are being caused by the drafts that define the functioning of the connection. The definitions of operation are still fairly vague and leave room for interpretation. As a result, vendors have interpreted drafts in their own way and that causes interoperability problems.Vendors should also put more effort into the security parameters. A limited range of parameters results in a limited applicability of the products. SSH IPSEC Express was especially strong in the broad range of configurations possible.
Support for certificate chains
SSH IPSEC Express solution was found unique in its support for applications with certificate chains. A certificate chain occurs when one certificate is used to sign a second one, and the second certificate is used to sign the third. The last certificate then, signs the first back. This kind of structure makes it possible to build complex chains of trust needed in secure communications between large organizations.SSH IPSEC Express interoperated successfully with IPSEC Solutions of the following companies:
Axent/Raptor, Checkpoint, Cisco IOS, FreeSWAN, Intel, IRE, Microsoft, RedCreek, TimeStep, WorldCom.
